14th August 2026 Hiking - Walking: Felixstowe and Hemley Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Light airs Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny and too hot Max Speed: Distance Covered: Friday 14th August - walks **** – Felixstowe and Hemley – sunny and very hot. With Mag disappearing down toward the prom I decided to have a drive round, first stop The Fludyers at 6.30 to snap a windbreak already in position and the early swimmers just setting off! Then onto the usual Felixstowe Ferry where it was already too hot being sunny with light airs with a bit of a haze over the Deben. I did my walk to the end of the boatyard and got a few pics which I have probably taken a million times before! After sorting out my pics and doing a few word games we got up as it’s our favourite day of the week, Maeva Friday:) I had time to do my exercises in a hot back garden, fill a trug with water for Maeva and pit up the garden parasol before she arrived in a stunning mermaid shorts outfit! She had a cool ice cream shop and made me an amazing cone, then Mag made banana cake with her, she even asked for her chef’s hat while I packed the picnic which Maeav probably won’t eat as she demolished a lot of grated cheese! We had to wait for the cake to bake before loading the van to drive over to Hemley Church to park under the shady tree and it was very hot but Maeva insisted we go for a walk to see the horse just down the lane first! The horses were in their shelter on the oppsosite side of the paddock so we continued and were surprised to make it all the way to the River Deben picking wide flowers and grasses and eating blackberries on the way! The tide was high and still coming in so I just paddled in the warm water and carried Maeva while Mag had to take her sandals and socks off! We sat on the small upturned boat by the river, now surrounded by water and I actually get Maeva paddling in the water although she was not keen but we loved it. Load of the path was now covered in water which Maeva walked through but did not like the mud so I put her on my shoulders until we found solid ground to put her shoes on. The big horse actually walked over to say hello but Maeva thought it was too big and didn’t get too close! The picnic went down well in the shady van but the best bit was the extended hand washing in a bowl of soapy water, Mag blow some top bubbles too, Maeva ended up with no clothes on sitting in the water laughing! Then back to Felixstowe for some yummy banana cake while Maeva once again striped off and sat in the trug of water for ages before we took her home, another brilliant Maeva Friday! I bought both the local papers, the Star and EADT as I had four eclipse pics in, the first pictures I have had in them for many years! Photo Album here |
